FINAL POST OF THIS TERM!

Hello everyone, after finishing the last task of this term I am finally here to write a goodbye post for you. This year this course contributed a lot to me. First, it taught me to combine technology with language teaching while preparing teaching materials. It helped me to learn how to prepare successful teaching materials for my potential students. I have learned so many important and useful apps through this course, I have learned how to use a corpus, and that flipped classroom is a beneficial method. However, again like last year's technology course, this was also the hardest course of the term because of the non-stop tasks. I don't think that we can find a solution to this because my instructor Gökçe Kurt was giving enough time and detailed instructions for our tasks. However, this course is difficult because it is time-consuming by nature. My favorite task of this course was preparing the corpus-based material because I learned a lot from the corpus while preparing the mat...

AI - INTEGRATED TEACHING MATERIAL

Hello there, how are you? I hope you are great. This week me and my friend Eda Karaca finished the last task of the term. It was again a contributing one. You know benefiting from AI has become inevitable in 21st-century language teaching and learning. Thus, we created an AI- integrated teaching material for our potential students. Our target group was EFL high school prep students. And I thought that using AI for a collaborative writing task would be different and fantastic for students. Therefore we decided to collaborate with AI for a story-writing activity about gender discrimination. First, we created the template for our material on Canva and wrote the pre-, target, and post-parts three pages long. We used ChatGPT as the target tool however for feedback we added ElsaSpeak as well to help students improve their pronunciation, internalize what they wrote by reading aloud, and getting feedback about both their pronunciation and story-writing skills. And then we created our ass...

AR - INTEGRATED TEACHING MATERIAL

Hello everyone,  This week our task was creating an AR integrating teaching material, and I worked with my friends Perihan Bozdağ, Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak, and Eda Karaca. First, we chose the option most suitable for us, then chose our country which was France, and started working. For this project, we decided on Canva because it is one of the most user-friendly apps. After, selecting the places in France, everyone searched for 360 videos and created QR codes for these videos. Finally, we wrote our "information and instructions" and "answer the questions" sections, in my opinion, this task was the most enjoyable task of this term. I will definitely use AR-integrated teaching materials when I start teaching, I believe they are really beneficial and fun for students. This is the link to our task , this is the  link to the ASSURE plan of our task   and finally, these are the links to the blog posts of my friends  Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak ,  Eda Karaca , and...

FLIPPED LANGUAGE CLASSROOM VIDEO CREATING TASK

This week, our task was to create a flipped classroom video. Fatma Reyhan Tuğ, Serra Bozkurt, and I worked together on this project. First, we decided on the type of video we would create. We concluded that an animated lesson video would be the best option for us. Then, we chose the application we would use. Unfortunately, we selected Animaker without realizing that it has many cons that made it very difficult to use. This application made the task twice as challenging as it needed to be. It froze so many times that we had to record the same content more than twice. It even deleted some of our work, forcing us to recreate it. It was not user-friendly at all, and I will never use this application again. Despite these difficulties, I learned important lessons from this task, which I plan to apply when I start teaching. A flipped classroom model can be highly beneficial if implemented effectively. However, this was, by far, the most difficult task I have encountered during my three years ...

CORPUS- BASED TEACHING MATERIAL

Hello there! This term, our first task was to create corpus-based teaching material. We were required to choose a corpus and design teaching material and a lesson plan based on it. We chose CorpusMate because it is more handy. For the topic, we decided on "Should vs. Must". After selecting the topic, we developed the materials, determined the activities to include, and ensured that students could easily use CorpusMate with our instructions on the worksheet. Once the material were complete, we started to plan the lesson using the ASSURE model and facilitated various lesson plan templates. Because we created this material and lesson plan for an ideal classroom there are potential challenges that can happen in a real classroom if our material is implemented. I want to write about them. One major problem could be the lack of adequate internet access or the unavailability of electronic devices like computers. In our country, many high schools do not have the technological infrastr...

Introduction Post for "Current Issues" Course

Hello there!  My name is Hayrünnisa, and I study ELT at Marmara University. As you can remember, last year, we had a course on Instructional Technologies and Material Design in ELT. This year, we have another course called "Current Issues," which is a follow-up to that course. From now on, I will use this blog to share my "Current Issues" course's tasks, task processes, and experiences with you.

FINAL POST OF THIS COURSE!

Hi everybody, we ended the term and this is my final post for this course. First, I want to say that it was the most complex course of our department until now but I really enjoyed it. It changed my opinions about using technology in the classroom. Everybody was talking about the benefits of technology in teaching but I was not be able to understand them until taking this course. Tasks were so beneficial for our instructions in the future but some were really hard and embarrassing. For example, digital storytelling was the most difficult one and I didn't enjoy it. However, collaborative writing task and the last task of the term were really enjoyable and not that much difficult. Throughout this course I have learned using so many applications or websites such as Padlet, magic school AI, there's an AI for that, etc. I am glad that I took this course and my lecturer is Gökçe KURT <3
