CORPUS- BASED TEACHING MATERIAL

Hello there!

This term, our first task was to create corpus-based teaching material. We were required to choose a corpus and design teaching material and a lesson plan based on it. We chose CorpusMate because it is more handy. For the topic, we decided on "Should vs. Must". After selecting the topic, we developed the materials, determined the activities to include, and ensured that students could easily use CorpusMate with our instructions on the worksheet. Once the material were complete, we started to plan the lesson using the ASSURE model and facilitated various lesson plan templates. Because we created this material and lesson plan for an ideal classroom there are potential challenges that can happen in a real classroom if our material is implemented. I want to write about them. One major problem could be the lack of adequate internet access or the unavailability of electronic devices like computers. In our country, many high schools do not have the technological infrastructure required to integrate corpus-based learning effectively. Additionally, most students are unfamiliar with using corpora, which could pose another challenge. Since corpus use is not a standard part of their learning habits, it might be difficult to engage them or sustain their interest. Students may find corpus-based learning boring or difficult which may hinder the lesson objectives and reduce the effectiveness of the material. This is the link for our corpus-based material, this is the docs link for the lesson plan and these are blog links of my friends Fatma Reyhan Tuğ and Serra Bozkurt.
